I interview people.

It began one year when I went to visit my son in college.  While on the plane to see him I discovered I had accidentally absconded with a small digital tape recorder that belonged to my workplace.  But that gave me an idea for mixing up this father/son college visit.  On the plane I began writing questions that I wanted to ask to, of and about my near young adult son.

On the second day of my visit I brought out the recorder and asked "Would you consider letting me ask you a few questions?".  To my surprise, he said "Sure". I interviewed him not as his father, but as someone interested in the thoughts, accomplishments and insights of another.

It was a remarkable experience.... for us both.

I was hooked. After all, when do we ever get to sit down and have someone's full attention for an hour, maybe two. I went on to capture the stories of my other son, my own mom, uncles, parents of my friends, my friends themselves and then friends of my friends.  I slowly learned about and upgraded audio equipment - microphones, recorders, mixers and editing software.  I learned that as much fun as "the gear" can be, it was the stories that I get to hear that makes this hobby /avocation exciting for me.

I still have that first recording of both sons (interviews 1 and 2), which I cherish now that they are older. I am fortunate to have all of my recordings. We everyday people all have a story - perhaps many stories.  I built this website to showcase  the stories I have recorded.
